The following information was disseminated by the Travel Berkeley Springs office:

Berkeley Springs is a heady brew of warm summer nights, lots of music and an African art opening this weekend.

Friday, beginning at 5pm at Mountain Laurel Gallery with the watercolors of Suzanne Bell, there is an Artwalk that concludes at the Ice House at 7:30pm with the opening of the African Art Show in the special exhibit gallery.   Baskets, beads and hangings from the Womens Art Project in Uganda are supplemented with masks and sculptures from Queen St. Gallery in Martinsburg, for a rare and exotic shopping opportunity.  Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday 11am to 5pm.   After the opening, slip over to La Luna Wine Bar for some great wine specials, tasty food and banjo player, Chelsea McBee.  The music starts at 8pm.

The rest of the weekend is all about music including the Saturday Concert in the Park series at 5:30pm, this weekend featuring the young new wave of rockabilly from The Chaotics.  The concert is in Berkeley Springs State Park moving to the Ice House as a rain location.  The music does not end with the concert on Saturday.  At 8pm, Fairfax Coffee House features the blues and zydeco music of "Choo Choo" Charlie Williams and Eddie Becker, both award-winning blues musicians from the Baltimore/DC area.  For a more local flavor, try the Hard Times Dance from 8-11pm at the Country Inn on Saturday featuring theTri-State Big Band and Flashbacks.  The dance benefits the upcoming Morgan County Fair.  As if these choices were not enough on Saturday, we have one more with The No Way Out Band featuring Cindy Born at Earthdog Cafe beginning at 9pm. It's a moveable feast of music on Saturday so sample several flavors.

You can start the music feast early with Mike Clement hosting the regular Thursday night jam session at Tari's Cafe beginning at 8pm.  Friday, it's Jonathan McBee and the Outer Rim playing classic rock at Earth Dog beginning at 8pm.

We also have some change of pace entertainment this weekend with a Star Party on Friday at 9pm at the Morgan County Observatory.  Featured player in the sky is Saturn and its rings.  The Star Theatre has its own party, this weekend it is the comedy hit, The Hangover, rated R for the generally raunchy but wildly funny flavor of the film.  Showtimes are 8pm on Thursday through Sunday with hard to believe it could be so good popcorn every night.

It's summertime.  The weather is ideal.  You're in the country and probably should do something besides listen to music and eat -- although those are both excellent choices.  The Morgan County Fair has two preview activities at Cacapon State Park on Saturday.  There is a 5K Run on Saturday at 8am followed at 11am by Irish Road Bowling.  While at the park, check out their other recreation offerings including a lake with sand beach for swimming, an 18-hole golf course in excellent condition, game courts and miles of hiking trails.  There is also swimming in town at the pool in Berkeley Springs State Park.

We know how special life is in Berkeley Springs and we love it when there is outside confirmation.  Two of our favorite dining spots -- Panorama at the Peak and Earth Dog Cafe were recently named to WV Tourism's list of 101 Unique West Virginia Restaurants.  Panorama is dedicated to serving local meats and produce and this weekend has a special that is Red Angus Beef from Elmwood Fields in Shepherdstown and exotic Chipolte Meringue Meatloaf served over corn guacamole from Glascocks here in Berkeley Springs.  You can find Glascocks among a dozen or more other vendors at the Berkeley Springs Farmers Market on Sunday from 10am to 2pm in the heart of town.

There are so many dining spots to try, you could do nothing but eat while you're here.  Highlawn Inn offers one of their silver service dinners this Saturday at 7pm. Reservations are required. There is elegant and tasty porch dining at Lot 12 and great ribs and steaks at Angus and Ale south of town.  Try the Country Inn's chef for three meals a day.  Add Tari's Cafe and you are in need of some serious walking to get ready for ice cream at Creekside Creamery.  All in all, no one starves in Berkeley Springs.

And no one is deprived of shopping or bathing or having their body soothed with various rubs, scrubs and massages. Definitely, no one is deprived of the perfect place to lay their head for the night whether brand name Best Western, single unit charm like Berkeley House, historic Country Inn, elegant B&Bs like Highlawn and the Manor or a whole host of choices from Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals from rustic cabins to fully-equipped vacation homes with pool access and hot tub.
