The following information was disseminated by the Travel Berkeley Springs office:

Berkeley Springs continues to basking the ideal summer -- warm days and cool nights. Fields and forests are lush green; gardens and orchards overflow with tomatoes and peaches and peppers all available at the Farmers Market and in local restaurants.

The concerts in the park series picks up the summer beat with The Players Band on Saturday at 5:30pm in Berkeley Springs State Park. A ska band from Baltimore, the rhythms of island reggae are strong in their music. Rain location for the free concert is the Ice House. Rock is another thread in their music and one you can continue after the concert by going to the Country Inn for their '60s Dance Bash with the Winstons. Buffet dinner starts at 6:30pm, music and dancing at 8pm. If you choose a more laid back musical interlude on saturday night, try the Fairfax Coffee House where Dennis Vaughan returns, this time accompanied by Hickory Wind guitarist and lead singer, Mark Walbridge. Their genre is traditional Appalachian and Celtic and American folk tunes. It all starts at 8pm.

For down home music fun -- and a chance to win money while you listen -- head out to the Troubadour on Sunday starting at 1pm and hear the excellent sound of the Tonehounds for the annual elimination drawing and steak feed.

Another special Saturday night event is at Highlawn Inn where the elegant B&B hosts a luxurious Silver Service dinner at a rare summer discount. With limited seating available, a reservation is required so call now. You do not need to stay at Highlawn to enjoy the dinner but should you choose to, they are offering a special discount on a Friday and Saturday night stay.

The Star Theatre devotes itself to family entertainment this weekend with Ice Age. Showtimes are Thursday through Sunday at 8pm and a Sunday Matinee at 2pm.

Drive through Berkeley Springs and you can be forgiven for thinking that it is a small mountain town in West Virginia where MAYBE there might be an interesting restaurant and some family-style eateries. WRONG! Surprise -- there is more high quality eating available than in any metropolitan restaurant row. And new treats are out there every day. Take the new Rose Cafe for example. They bring an Asian flare to the menu with Thai soups, Indian curries, Japanese sushi, and their signature Vietnamese Summer Rolls. Open daily from 9:30 to 5:30pm, they are an ideal stop for mid morning snack, lunch or late afternoon refresher. Sometimes, it is hard to know where to go for breakfast -- at least for those folks who do not have the pleasure of a glorious B&B breakfast. Several places offer great food to start your day with special brunches on Sunday at Panorama and La Luna. Earth Dog Cafe serves breakfast all day every day. The Country Inn, Cacapon State Park and Maria's Garden serve breakfast daily but only at breakfast time.

For most of your stay, it's about dinner and we have a remarkable assortment of fine dining from steaks and barbecue at Angus and Ale to signature crab cakes and splendid specials at Tari's Cafe. If Tari's is one of your longtime favorites, make sure you stop by and try their new menus for lunch and dinner, Chef Devin has outdone himself. A hotbed of the Local Food movement, Berkeley Spring has several notable chefs working with are farmers to bring you meats and produce that barely have to walk down the block. To experience Chef Damien Heath, West Virginia's only James Beard regional finalist chef, you need to have dinner at his much-praised Lot 12 Public House -- or get to the Farmers Market early on Sunday to get some delicious eats from the Lot 12 booth. Chef Christian makes the Country Inn dining room glow with good eating while Chef Scott makes lunch or dinner at Panorama a feast not to be missed. They each offer so many "favorite" dishes, we cannot mention them all.

If you do not get around to dinner until late night, we have to admit the locations are limited in number but not in quality. You can eat fine food until midnight on weekends at both La Luna Wine Bar and at the Country Inn's Tavern.

Family-friendly dining adds more eateries to the list from Cacapon State Park to Maria's Garden to Earth Dog Cafe and their outstanding barbecue and hamburgers to Mi Ranchito's Mexican fare. Local color winner is the Troubadour Lounge, home of the WV Music Hall of Fame AND a popular Steak Nite on Friday. Limited menus are found at Creekside Creamery alongside their great ice cream, and Soupity Salad. But don't just take our word for eat -- tasting is believing! And if you want some high quality local produce to take home, put Sunday's Farmers Market on your list of must-do; Sunday from 10am to 2pm in the square.

Even though calories taken in while on vacation do not count, we still want to offer some opportunities to walk off that lunch. Try walking around town -- walking tour or shopping in nearly 20 unusual and one-of-a-kind shops can burn off that dessert. One place to stop while you stroll about is The Vintage Kitchen up on Green Street where they are having a big sidewalk sale with dollar grab bags all weekend.

You can choose serious walking (called hiking) on the trails at Cacapon State Park or on the Tuscarora Trail or the C&O Canal. While at Cacapon, you could lose that appetizer with 18 holes of golf or a swim in the lake. Then there is the easy way -- hit a spa and get any extra indulgence massaged away and have a facial while you're at it. Check the spa page for more than a dozen options of where to go and who to go to.

If you are going to indulge in several meals, you need to stay at least overnight. We have the perfect place for you -- your choice from dozens of options. Be in town and take your walk on historic streets. Be in the country and hike around your cabin or vacation home or inn. Check the list and be thrilled that things have changed from George Washington's day. He praised the food but claimed that lodging could only be had by bringing it with you. Not any more. Now we can fed you, let you "take the waters" AND provide a memorable pillow for your head.
