This Week in Berkeley Springs, WV May 3-9, 2010
The following information is from the Travel Berkeley Springs office:
Berkeley Springs is so action-packed
this weekend that you'll need extra hours to do everything -- or come
early.
The Master Gardeners have a Plant Sale on Friday and Saturday in
Berkeley Springs State Park and
their booths will be overflowing with plants of herbs, flowers, vegetables and
more. Take some home with you -- or bring some to Mom. They extend the fun this
year by creating self-guided Garden Tours available all day Friday and Saturday
with maps at the Plant Sale. On the street next to the park on Friday, you can
stay after the Plant Sale closes and admire the classic cars parked there for
the First Friday display by Mountain State Cruisers -- with street fair
food.
As Friday night goes on, the fun continues with an Artwalk that
begins at Mountain Laurel from 5 to 7:30pm. Stop by,
have a glass of wine and see their affordable range of fine American crafts.
Then head down the street to the Ice House where, at 7:30pm, white gloved
quilters guide the public through their annual Delectable Mountains Quilt Guild
show. Fabulous full-size quilts, wall-hangings and fun small items like lined
jewelry carriers and coloring book holders are all on display and many are for
sale. The
Ice House Gallery is open Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm.
While you
are out and about Friday night, help the folks at Ambrae
House christen their brand new outdoor deck offering fresh food, great wine
and beer. They serve lunch and have Happy Hours Friday through Sunday as well as
dinner so you could spend three days breaking in their deck.
Quilts go on
stage Saturday evening at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3pm when Piecework is staged at
the Ice
House. Three staged readings of local plays by local actors with stories
that include quilts offer a bonus of a drawing at each showing of a yard square
quilt made for each play. The $5 ticket provides both admission and a chance on
the quilts. You can also use the 42 Yard Square Quilts hanging in shops and
restaurants and other businesses to guide you along the historic streets and
discover treasures along the way.
Saturday evening has music choices. Fairfax Coffee House hosts Glenn
Pearson and friends playing the best of the American songbook and show tunes
starting at 8pm. Troubadour Lounge has a live band for
country dancing on Saturday starting at 9pm. The music actually begins earlier.
On Thursday night, Cindy Born hosts the famous jam nite at Tari's Cafe
beginning at 8pm. Special appetizer menus and prime rib make for excellent
eating along with the music. Other fun nightlife includes Happy Hours on Friday
from 5-8pm at La Luna featuring "Pierre's
Picks," wines not normally on the wine list.
The Star Theatre
is showing the comedy hit "Date Night" with Tina Fey for this Mothers Day
weekend. Make sure you get some of their famous popcorn. Showtimes are Friday,
Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.
As you prepare he leave town and want to take
with you some of the fabulous fresh food you've been eating at several local
restaurants including Panorama at the Peak, make sure you stop at the Farmers Market on Sunday
from 10am to 2pm. You'll find Lot 12 there selling some of the soups and
salads you can get at their popular restaurant.
Let's not forget that
Sunday is Mother's Day -- the busiest eating out day of the year. No place is
better than Berkeley Springs to celebrate since
there is an incredible array of dining choices from fine
dining at Lot 12,
Panorama, Temptations Cafe or Tari's. Make
sure you get a reservation. Cacapon State Park welcomes mothers and
families for their buffet from noon to 7pm. Maria's
Garden comforts with Italian food and showcases the world mother with their
Marian Museum. The Country Inn goes all
out with a fabulous buffet as well as a whole weekend package that includes spa
services. If you can only come up for day during the week -- still plan on the
Country Inn where there is
a Weekday in May special that packages lunch with a pedicure and
manicure.
Spend all Mothers Day weekend in Berkeley Springs and find the perfect
pillow for Mom to lay her head. It might be in an elegant B&B or historic
inn; it might be a cabin in the woods or along the river; it might be a fully
equipped, multi-=bedroom vacation home so the whole family can come. Check our
lodging page for all the
specials and choices. Remember -- Berkeley Springs is closer than
anywhere.
