The following information is from the Travel Berkeley Springs office:

The everyday wonder of Berkeley Springs is sometimes enough -- like this weekend. Except for the Artwalk and gallery show opening at the Ice House...and Iron Man 2 at the Star Theatre.....and V6 band at the Troubadour.....and the Farmers Market on Sunday...

OK. You get the idea. Even on a slow weekend there's lots special to do. And after we tell you what, then we can go on and list some of our favorite things available EVERY WEEKEND.

On Friday from 5 to 7:30pm, Mountain Laurel starts the Artwalk with a special reception and two floors of exciting America fine art and crafts. Have a few sips of wine and nibble some snacks then mosey on down the street to the Ice House where the opening of Themas begins at 7:30pm. That's a show of six artists following six themes and variations into the creation of more than 40 works of art plus poetry to tie it all together. The gallery show can also be seen on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm only without the wine and treats.

On the nighttime entertainment scene, it's the content that changes each week. The Fairfax Coffee House has great music both nights. On Friday at 8pm, the Lickety Split Banjo Boys perform traditional bluegrass, gospel and mountain music. Saturday at 8pm, it's roots blues and rock performed by Choo Choo Charlie Williams and Eddie Becker with The Spitfires. The Troubadour stages karaoke on Friday night as well as having Steak Night. On Saturday, at 9pm the V6 band plays music for country dancing.

At the Star Theatre this weekend, you can enjoy Iron Man 2 as well as the best popcorn in four states. Showtimes are 8pm at Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Now let's look at the everyday wonders a visit to Berkeley Springs offers. We can start with dining because everyone has to eat. There are more than a dozen eateries in Berkeley Springs that meet every taste and pocketbook as well as ambiance. Since it is glorious summertime, outdoor dining is a treat. Among the best locales are the porch at Lot 12, under street side umbrellas at Tari's Cafe and overlooking the run at Creekside Creamery, and the alluring new outdoor bar at Ambrae House. There's also free wine tasting on the porch at Wilkes Street Wine Shop Saturday from 1 to 4pm. Then there is the food. Among the highlights are the new spicy ribs at Tari's Cafe, excellent fish dishes at Temptations Cafe, delicious Bhang Bhang shrimp at Ambrae House, turkey croquettes and an all-regional food menu at Panorama, and crispy roast duck at Lot 12. At the Country Inn, the menu is continually changing but you can be assured that the soup of the day is outstanding and the presentation of all the dishes will amaze. And then there are the rueben's and breakfast all day at Earth Dog, family-friendly Italian at Maria's Garden, Mexican at Mi Ranchito, steaks and ribs at Angus and Ale, and more ribs on the menu at Mountainside. The pepperoni rolls at Tony's Butcher Block are the best around and you can pick up steaks to grill while you're there. But plan, ahead -- Tony's is not open on Sunday.

Many of the eateries pride themselves on using local produce. You can use the same ingredients at home by stopping by the Farmers Market before you leave. It is set up in the square on Sunday from 10 to 2 and filled to overflowing with everything from lettuce to tomatoes.

Now that we've fattened you up, let's suggest some outdoor fun to work it off. Cacapon State Park is outdoor central with miles of hiking trails, an 18-hole golf course in top condition, a lake with sand beach and the new shooting range that has countless women trying their hand at shooting for the first time ever. Golfers can polish up their swings and let the kids play at Cold Run Driving Range and Mini-Golf. There is also an outdoor pool in Berkeley Springs State Park that is fed from the same spring as Lord Fairfax used.

Speaking of Lord Fairfax who once owned all this land, learn more about the rich history of the area at the Museum of the Berkeley Springs, open Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm on the second floor of the Roman Bath House in the heart of town.

We mentioned exceptional dining earlier. Some of the best food in town can be found in the place you stay including the marvelous breakfasts at Highlawn Inn, Ambrae House and The Manor B&B as well as other B&Bs throughout the county. We encourage you to explore our lodging pages in depth. There are more than 100 choices of rooms, cabins, cottages, historic inns, vacation homes and B&Bs. We know there is one with your name on it for this weekend.

Enjoy Berkeley Springs throughout the summer starting right now!
