Labor Day in Berkeley Springs could be called "Picnic Weekend" with country-style family celebrations in several locations.

It starts on the street Friday evening with classic cars on display, music and street food in and next to the Park. South Morgan Fire Company stages their annual Yard Party on Saturday at the fire hall. Country style dinner is served from 1 to 7pm. There's bluegrass music from Five of a Kind, auctions and games. On Sunday, traditional fun shifts to Cacapon State Park for Homecoming with games, food, music and a silent auction. To celebrate the day, swimming and boating are free. As always, Cacapon State Park offers the best in regional golf daily at its 18-hole course.

The most unique celebration of the weekend takes place at the Troubadour, home of the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame, where it's given over to Remembering Patsy Cline. On Friday, it's a Patsy Cline Karaoke contest starting at 9pm; Saturday night is a live band. Sunday is the big day where Patsy shares remembering with Ernest Tubbs. Music starts at 1pm and a bring-a-dish dinner at 2pm. Patsy's husband, Charlie Dick comes from Nashville to have dinner with fans and to help induct 2011 nominees to the Hall of Fame.

There's more great music at Fairfax Coffee House on Saturday at 8pm when Sam and Joe Herrmann, heart of Critton Hollow String Band and masters of traditional music, perform on fiddle, banjo and hammer dulcimer. Ambrae House serves up acoustic music on its outdoor deck along with steamed crabs on Friday and Saturday evening. At Earth Dog Cafe, SMOOCH performs classic rock originals on Saturday. Even local radio gets into the swing of a music weekend with the Weber Brothers on Beyond Country with the Doctor, live 92.9 on Saturday from 4-5pm.

On the big screen, "Cowboys and Aliens" brings Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig to the Star Theatre. It's the final Thursday night movie of the year giving you four chances to see the film -- Thursday through Sunday at 8pm -- or stop in for world class popcorn and a new shipment of classic Star t-shirts.

Take advantage of a one-of-a-kind chance to engage the rich local history of Berkeley Springs on Saturday at the Ice House. At 11am and again at 2pm, local authors Jeanne Mozier and Betty Lou Harmison explore appearing and disappearing buildings and tell great stories to the accompaniment of projected images of overlooks of the town dating from the late 19th century to the 1970s. Friday through Monday from 11am to 4pm, visit the Museum of the Berkeley Springs in the park for exhibits and artifacts showcasing the history. With a dazzling new sign on the entrance, you can't miss the museum.

Sunday, local products are showcased at the Berkeley Springs Farmers Market from 10am to 2pm. Lot 12 will be back at the market with fabulous gourmet street food. For the full ambience and menu of West Virginia's only James Beard rated chef, visit Lot 12 for dinner all weekendlong. Across the street on Sunday it's Art in the Park. All weekend long, local art is available for sale at the Ice House Co-op Gallery along with a special show of the WV Water Color Society. The gallery is open 11am to 5pm, Friday through Sunday. Learning art is as much fun as buying it. Come to Frog Valley Artisans on Saturday from 2 to 5pm where Veronica is teaching the basics of handbuilding with clay while you create a critter. Other shopping specials this weekend include new ceramic bowls and wall plates plus 30 new designs of flour sack dish towels at Lions Lair. There's also a great Purse Sale on the street in front of the Star Theatre on Saturday from 10 to 3 to benefit Stepping Stones.

Dining is always a treat in Berkeley Springs but this weekend offers something special. Highlawn Inn has a rare table or two available for its holiday dinner on Saturday evening highlighting local products and carefully crafted food in a gracious Victorian setting. Reservations are essential. If you are planning your own picnic or cook-out, get to Tony's Butcher Block on Friday and Saturday for fresh cut steak, seafood and made-in-store salads. Other options are abundant from the always popular Tari's Cafe to Fresh Fish Frenzy on Friday night at Temptations to great margaritas and Mexican food at Mi Ranchito. The spas are on duty all weekend long and at Awakening Health Center they are giving away new health-related books as long as they last. Atasia has a new website they want you to see as well as some outstanding spa specials you'll find posted there.

Hunting seasons are beginning with waterfowl and geese opening on September 1. Dove hunting also begins in September and while opening day is fully booked, Quail Hollow Farm conducts gamebird and dove hunts throughout the entire fall season.
