This Week in Berkeley Springs, W March 19-25, 2012
It's Spring and there is no doubt that Berkeley Springs is ready with flowering trees in bloom everywhere from park to streets to yards and gardens.
Bright stars -- actually the planets Venus and Jupiter -- are also "in bloom" brilliant in the clear night sky. You can see them up close and personal at a Star Party on Friday, starting at 7:30pm at the Morgan County Observatory. There may be line at the big Cassegrain telescope but lots of folks will have their smaller telescopes set up and ready to share a peak.
In town, the sound is of drums with a 7pm drumming circle set up at Portals, facing the park. Bring your drums and play along or be appreciative audience. Stop back at Portals on Saturday when there are psychic readings from Cindy Wellman available all day. You can also design your own jewelry there and have it made while you wait.
Friday through Sunday at 8pm, the entertainment is at the Star Theatre, a vintage movie house this weekend showing the romantic story "The Vow." Stop by for the popcorn whether you stay for the movie or not.
You can dance on Saturday night at two locations. Earth Dog Cafe features Universal Recording artists Ignite The Borealis. You can hear them in the afternoon at 4pm on the radio -- Beyond Country at 929. At the Troubadour Saturday night starting at 9pm it's the country sounds of Just B Cuz featuring those famous West Virginians: R.C. McCoy and JR Hatfield.
The rest of your time wallowing in Spring at the springs can be spent indulging in the everyday pleasures that make Berkeley Springs a perfect getaway whenever you need it. Everyday finds the spas open to given comfort, relief and healing. The actual springs in the park can be visited 24/7 and are perfect to dangling toes and splashing about. You can take the water home free from the town pump -- bring your own container. To learn more about the springs -- geology AND history, stop in at the Museum of the Berkeley Springs in the park. It's open 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
Now back to experiencing the springs -- and the spas. There are several with a long list of available treatments from which you can choose. Don't miss the historic Roman Baths in the park. Sample a variety of massage types, rubs, scrubs, incredible facials and pedicures at several locations including Atasia Spa (which also has aromatic steam room and whirlpool tubs) and the Bath House Day Spa. There are also massage, steams and baths in the renovated main bathhouse at Berkeley Springs State Park. Awakening Health Center has a corner on the market for alternative bodywork treatments from reflexology to sound therapy. Acupuncture is available from Berkeley Springs Acupuncture as we ll as Awakening. Plus there is the master of relieving pain at AbleBody Wellness. Check the Spa page for other offerings.
