Berkeley Springs can see spring just around the corner. After nearly a week of sunny, warm days, the glaciers are nearly receded in town although there are still snow covered fields in the hinterlands.

For all those of you who have been missing your favorite spa town, come visit this weekend. It is peaceful with just enough music to make things fun and a bushel basket of lodging packages that yell -- WE WANT TO SEE YOU!

Let's start with the only-this-weekend activities mostly music. Earthdog Cafe has carved out its place as music central with jams on Wednesdays, karaoke on Thursdays and bands on Fridays and Saturdays. This weekend it is Telltale Signs on Friday and Outer Rim on Saturday plus, as reported with astonishment recently, free pool!

For change of pace music, climb the hill to the Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 3pm for a Mostly Mozart performance by the Springs Chamber Ensemble.

The Star Theatre is showing "Youth in Revolt" this weekend -- a funny comedy starring Michael Cera. Showtimes are 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- and the world class popcorn flows even for walk-ins.

With St. Patty's Day right around the corner, the folks at St. Vincent de Paul are getting the jump on the food tradition with a corned beef and cabbage dinner at 6:30pm on Saturday right in the heart of town. For more down home fun on Saturday night, head on out to South Morgan Fire Hall for weekly bingo.

Although it is always fun to list the special activities to be found each weekend in Berkeley Springs, it is also important to remind visitors that fabulous treats await them EVERY DAY! And what are those treats? Spas, first and foremost. Several spas and dozens of bodyworkers and scores of treatments from which to choose. Now that Berkeley Springs does not have to star as center of the water universe for another year, we can move on to other fun things to do.

This weekend, Friday seems to be the hot day -- or actually, night so plan accordingly. That means come early.

Two new Friday activities are being introduced this week. Panorama at the Peak is starting its Martini and Tapas Fridays (all day) with the featured martini being pomegranate. Word is that the favorite tapa is West Virginia trout cake. There is the standard menu as well with a long list of Farm Fresh ingredients turned into outstanding dishes. The second new Friday activity is La Luna's Happy Hour from 5 to 8pm featuring Pierre's Picks: wines not on the wine list at exceptional prices.

The future of art is on display with the opening of Youth Art Month at the Ice House on Friday. The building is filled with visual art from all the schools in the county. There's a gala opening at 7pm with high school singers performing at 7:30pm. You can also see the art on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm although the Ice House Co-op Gallery does not open for another couple weeks.

If you come REALLY early, on Thursday, you can hear the poetry of Kate Shunney at the Fairfax Coffee House from 6:30 to 8pm. Kate is reading from her first published book of poems -- "Parade of the Everyday."

All weekendlong, the Star Theatre is showing "Avatar" at 8pm. The popcorn is as out of this world as the movie.

The Troubadour Lounge is also partying all weekend, Remembering Patsy Cline. Friday is Steak Nite and karaoke with Mike Hicks with special applause for any Patsy singers. Saturday, it's the live sound of the outstanding Tonehounds, special for country dancing starting at 9pm. Sunday, the fun starts at 1pm watching Patsy Cline videos, viewing scrapbooks and listening to Patsy's music. The real treat is having owner Jim McCoy talk about his days with Cline.

That takes care of your night. For your days, try some of the unique treats of Berkeley Springs from the extensive spa menus at a half dozen establishments to some wonderful shopping strolling along the historic downtown streets. Eating is another exciting activity for which Berkeley Springs is especially noted. Exceptional dining, equal to any city in the region, can be experienced at Tari's Cafe, Lot 12, Temptations Cafe and the Country Inn as well as the above-mentioned Panorama.

Berkeley Springs is all about water this weekend and we're not talking about the weather! It's the 20th anniversary of the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting at the Country Inn with a fabulous day of tasting on Saturday. The public is invited to this ticketed event. Free tickets are available at lodging places and the visitors center.

More than 130 waters are participating this year -- the largest number ever! The public can taste along with media judges and it's the public that chooses the packaging winner. The tasting begins in the Country Inn's Park View Garden room at 2:30pm when the municipal waters are rated followed by purified; at 6:30pm it's the bottled waters --still and sparkling. The awards ceremony and reception begins at 8pm. Once the world's best waters are named, plus two special awards this year for the biggest winners of the past 20 years, the world famous water rush begins. The audience gets to take home thousands of bottles of water on display and experiences a whole new meaning to the nearly three century old custom of coming to Berkeley Springs to "take the waters." For true water groupies, there are exhibits and on Friday from 1 to 5pm, a fascinating afternoon seminar where experts from around the country chat about important water issues.

The Water Tasting is the BIG event but everyone in town wants to get on board with other activities to entertain you once you've made your choice for best waters.

Since tasting is the theme of the weekend, let's start with all the special tastes available. There are two wine tastings on Saturday. Wilkes St. Wine Shop showcases "Turning from Water to Wine Tasting" from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday while La Luna Wine Bar and Gallery tastes wines of the world from 3 to 5pm.

Panorama at the Peak has created a special Farm Fresh tasting menu for the weekend served tapas style on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for lunch and dinner. The tastes are irresistible from baby lamb chops and turkey croquettes to WV trout cakes and goat cheese and basil ravioli. The foods are local and the view is spectacular.

Creekside Creamery, famed for it's ice cream treats, is staging another type of tasting on Saturday and Sunday afternoons beginning at noon. Come in and sample their fruit butters and condiments up to 4pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. While there, browse for all their special gift sales including a fabulous poster of Panorama at the Peak's view for only $1!

Sales are also on the agenda at Himalayan Trading Company (20%) as well as Nature Niche (25% purchases of $50 or more except for Wild Delight Bird Feed.)

Once you are done with the water tasting on Saturday night, you'll be ready to cut loose for some great music and dancing. There are two choices of live bands playing on Saturday night. Roadhouse is playing for country dancing at the Troubadour Lounge while 40 West is at the Earth Dog Cafe. Both places also offer dining options with the Troubadour drawing crowds for their Steak Night and karaoke on Friday night. Earth Dog is home of the all-day breakfast and great barbecue.

The Star Theatre boasts a perennial best taste award with its world class popcorn served with real butter. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 8pm, the Star is showing Clint Eastwood's compelling drama. "Invictus" starring Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as captain of the 1995 South African rugby team.

We may only draw waters from around the world for tasting once a year, but the warm water of the famed Berkeley Springs are celebrated every day of the year in the spas of town. A No-Nonsense Guide to Home Buying

In the last few years, the process of buying a home has been altered by the so-called mortgage crisis and the continued evolution of online real estate tools. So in this article, we will take a fresh and modern look at the process of buying a house. More specifically, I will outline the general process in twelve clear steps.

1. Check Your Credit

Credit scores have always been important for home buyers, but they are more in the wake of the mortgage meltdown of 2007 - 2009. According to industry experts, home buyers in 2006 needed a credit score of at least 620 to qualify for the best interest rates on a loan. Two years later, borrowers needed a score of 760 or higher to get the best rates. That’s a much stricter requirement!

So your first step should be to review your financial situation. Order your credit reports from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, and check them for errors. Order your credit score (different from your reports) to see how you stack up against the national average. If necessary, focus on improving your score by paying down credit card balances, making all future payments on time, etc.

2. Determine Your Budget

Don’t make the mistake of letting a mortgage lender tell you what you can and cannot afford, in terms of a monthly mortgage payment. In reality, the only thing a lender can tell you is the amount you qualify for — not the amount you can realistically afford. In other words, you should determine your home buying budget for yourself. There are a lot of free mortgage calculators online that can make this process easier for you.

3. Research and Choose a Type of Mortgage

Do you know the difference between a fixed-rate mortgage and an ARM? This is just one of the things you need to understand before applying for a mortgage loan. Because of increased competition in the lending industry, there are more types of home loans today than ten years ago. The key to success when choosing a mortgage is to consider your long-term plans and find a loan that matches those plans. To do this, you must learn the pros and cons of the primary loan types.

4. Get Pre-Approved for a Loan

Pre-approval is a process in which the mortgage lender reviews your financial and credit history to determine your “creditworthiness” … an industry term that means: “How much of a risk is this person, and how much are we comfortable lending?” When you get pre-approved for a certain loan amount, there’s a good chance that you’ll receive final approval for that amount as well, when the time comes.

Having a pre-approval letter in hand also shows sellers that you are serious about (and capable of) purchasing their home. This can make a big difference in hotter real estate markets, where the seller may receive multiple offers from competing buyers.

5. Find a Real Estate Agent

If you are buying a home for the first time, or in a new city you’re not familiar with, it’s wise to hire a professional real estate agent. When you compare the amount of money you’ll pay for a new home with the size of the agent’s commission, you’ll see that it’s worthwhile to hire an agent. Choose an agent who specializes in helping buyers, as opposed to sellers.

6. Narrow Your Search

The neighborhood you choose is nearly as important as the house itself, because both have a direct bearing on your quality of life — not to mention the future resale value. For these reasons and more, it’s always best to live in a city for a while before buying a home, even if it means renting an apartment for a while. That way, you can discover which areas you like best before committing to an area.

7. Begin House Hunting

This is where you and your agent visit properties in order to find one that matches your needs. Here are some helpful tips. Take a digital camera with you to get pictures of each home. This will help you recall the details later on. Bring a notepad as well, and for the same reason. While you’re at it, you might want to bring a friend along for an unbiased opinion of each property — you know, that outspoken friend who calls it like it is.

8. Evaluate the Asking Price

It’s referred to as the “asking price” for a good reason. Just because a property is listed at $250,000 doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worth that amount. This is another area where it helps to have a real estate agent. Most agents are expert at validating sale prices against recent sales in the area, and that’s the best way to find out if the price is realistic or inflated.

9. Make an Offer

Once you’ve determined that the price is fair and reasonable, you are ready to make an offer on the property. Always make the offer contingent upon the home inspection (see next item). That way, if the inspector uncovers an issue that you consider a deal breaker, you have a way out of the contract. Ask your agent about contingencies.

10. Get a Home Inspection

Most inspections only cost a few hundred dollars. That’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind you get in return. A home inspector will review the structural and mechanical aspects of the house, including (but not limited to) the roof, foundation, electrical, and heating / cooling system.

11. Attend the Closing / Settlement Process

So, you’ve made it through all of the inspections and the process is still on track. Great! The next step will be the closing / settlement process (it goes by different names in different parts of the country). Actually, you can prepare for this process early on by putting extra money aside. This is when the title to the property is transferred from the seller to the buyer. You’ll also be signing a lot of paperwork and paying any other fees that are due.

12. Tie Up Loose Ends

After your move, you’ll have a few more things on your task list. Transfer your utilities if you haven’t done so already. Complete a change-of-address form with the post office. Get a safe deposit box for your home insurance policy and other important documents. Set up a mortgage payment schedule or an online auto-pay system. And give yourself a pat on the back … you’re now a homeowner!

There is snow in Berkeley Springs -- except in the spring pools where steam can be seen as the warm water bubbles up in the heart of this historic spa town. There are pristine fields of snow but clear streets, sidewalks and parking areas in town. All the lodging places have been cleared and the eateries as well. No excuses! You need a getaway. You need warm water. And Berkeley Springs is the closest warm water winter getaway you can find.

One activity that the snow makes perfect is the Audubon Society's free wildlife-tracking field trip at Cacapon State Park on Saturday starting at 10am. The signs will be easy to spot in the snow from footprints and scat o marks left on trees. It's great fun for adults and kids to do together.

For more family fun this weekend, head for the Star Theatre and "Alvin and the Chipmunks - The Squeakquel." There are four big shows -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm and a Sunday matinee at 2pm.

Other nightlife this weekend focuses on music. The Telltale Signs are performing at Earth Dog Cafe on Friday which the Bad Bitches of Blues take the stage there on Saturday -- both nights at 8:30pm. There is more music on Saturday when the Country Majestics play for country dancing at the Troubadour Lounge starting at 9pm.

Three favorite activities are a pleasure to enjoy this weekend -- as always. First and foremost is indulging in the several spas in town. It's easy to make all those snow shoveling aches disappear along with chapped skin and rough hands. Spend the day at the spa getting rubbed and scrubbed and buffed and smoothed. Winter simply disappears beneath the magic fingers of more than a dozen certified therapists. One spa treat not to miss is splashing and floating in the historic Roman Baths in Berkeley Springs State Park -- 750 gallons of heated famous spring water guaranteed to soothe.

As you stroll from spa to spa sampling the various techniques, engage in shopping as well. In case you forgot your coat, or mittens or a warm hat, make your first stop the RAG Shop for recycled wearables and other items. Finally, there is the third -- and in some minds, best -- activity which is eating! Food is serious business in Berkeley Springs and you'll need to plan several meals a day to try all the great places from breakfast at Earth Dog, or the Country Inn or Temptations Cafe (and they all serve lunch and dinner too) then there is fine dining at Lot 12, lunch or dinner at Tari's Cafe and family friendly eateries like Maria's Garden for Italian (and breakfast) or Mi Ranchito for Mexican. For take home, check out Tony's Butcher Block with great meats, salads, soups and fabulous sandwiches.

Where to stay is easy -- there are plenty of choices -- and hard, there are plenty of choices. Make the list of what you want: mountainside vacation home with wood stove, or intown B&B with whirlpool tub, or the Country Inn walkable to everywhere in town or the lodge at Cacapon State Park so you can be there for the tracking.

Berkeley Springs is undoubtedly the closest naturally warm water -- and a getaway geared up to celebrate LOVE this weekend. Psst -- remember, Sunday is Valentine's Day and it's the long President's Day weekend. Besides, everyone needs some uplifting fun.

The Valentine weekend fun is focused on nightlife and romantic dining. Then there is great shopping for the ideal gift, tempting spa treatments and plenty of lodging specials as bonuses.

Let's start with nightlife and a VERY busy Saturday night. The big news on the music scene is world class bluesman, Tom Principato (16 CDs, dozens of awards, and a decades-long career in the US in Europe) and his band playing in concert at the Ice House at 7:30pm. This is limited seating so check the MAC website for advance tickets.

Once that concert is over, you can hear more blues from another longtime bluesman, Billy Thompson, who is playing at Earth Dog Cafe starting at 8:30pm. Or, if you want to shift to some country/rock dance music from a great local band, head out along the ridge to the Troubadour Lounge to hear the Tonehounds at 9pm. Play your cards right and you can do all three!

In Berkeley Springs, the Library fundraisers are famous for their entertainment. Usually the locale means limited attendance and insiders snap up all the tickets weeks in advance. This time dancing is the focus and the locale is the American Legion on the north end of town with PLENTY to room for anyone who wants to come. On Sunday at 5pm it's light dinner and dancing with The Flashbacks, Blue Eyed Soul & Berkeley Swings. Call the Library at 304-258-3350 for advance tickets or take your chances at the door. Plus, you benefit the local library!

The Star Theatre has lined up Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin to entertain you this weekend with their romantic comedy hit: "It's Complicated." The movie is rated R, the popcorn is rated the best in four states, and the ambiance is vintage 1940s. Showtimes at Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.

One traditional Valentine treat that we have down pat is fine food to stir the romantic heart. Almost everyone has a Valentine's Day special dinner on Saturday or Sunday -- pick your favorite and make certain you have a reservation.

The most romantic -- and most exclusive with limited seating -- is Highlawn Inn's single-seating, silver service Hearts Aglow gourmet dinner on Saturday at 7pm featuring WV wines and special gifts in Victorian splendor with lighted Valentine Tree and blazing fire.

Ambrae House makes the whole weekend a Valentine's treat with a special menu, four course dinner for two with matched wine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Tari's Cafe is also celebrating Valentine's Day all weekend -- and celebrating it with a fabulous seafood dinner for two that includes lobster tails, crabcakes and more plus a special dessert tasting and champagne. Even La Luna Gallery and Wine Bar is getting in on the act by preparing special Valentines Day dinners on Sunday evening.

Snow prevented Lot 12 from re-opening this past weekend so they'll be back with a delectable fixed price three-course dinner on Sunday evening --reservations are almost gone so move quickly -- or start early with their exceptional standard menu Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Another Sunday celebrator is Temptations Cafe which also re-opens this weekend on Thursday, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Get a tasty dinner for two plus the music of Mike Clement from 6 to 9pm on Sunday. For a wonderfully romantic breakfast, try their famous French Toast. Beginning a home search can be a somewhat disconcerting task. Perhaps the biggest question many first time homebuyers have is where to begin the process. Some people begin by looking at real estate magazines or websites, while others call real estate agents right off the bat. The process varies.

So, what is the best way to begin your quest for a new home? In truth, any way you begin the process is a good way, because the most important thing is to get started. After all, you will learn a lot as you go. But there are some things to keep in mind:

Do the Proper Research

Buying real estate can be an overwhelming experience for the first-time buyer. But you can make the process much easier simply by understanding it. Start with the lingo. By learning the terminology associated with home buying and mortgage, you will make smarter decisions along the way.

Set Your Budget

The best way to begin looking for a home is to first sit down with a mortgage lender to determine how a high a mortgage you can afford and be approved for. Remember, there is a difference between the loan amount you can be approved for and the amount you can actually afford. So in the end, only you can determine your home buying budget — not a mortgage lender.

Winter in Berkeley Springs has its own charms, especially when you know that warm water is pumping from the ground just in the center of town. Later we'll guide you on your own personal spa feast from the centuries-old industry that has thrived here for "taking the waters."

But first -- let's talk about nightlife. Especially music.

Berkeley Springs has become a music mecca in the past year or so and this weekend is no exception. Two big nights of dancing awaits. On Friday night, check out Earth Dog Cafe, one reason that music has bloomed. They'll be featuring the Flashbacks, a local retro band with a great sound for dancing and at least two members who think they are Buddy Holly. Earth Dog also has culinary appeal with its three Bs: burgers, barbecue and breakfast all day.

The other music treat is Saturday night when the fabulous Weber Brothers pass through stopping at the Troubadour for music and dancing starting at 9pm. The Troubadour also wants you to eat there especially on Steak Nite which is Friday and followed by karaoke. While out on the ridge, check out the Troubadour's collection of authentic country music memorabilia -- the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame.

There's also music at the movies this weekend when the Star Theatre shows Disney's latest classic animation: The Princess and the Frog with a sound track straight from Bourbon St. Showtimes are 8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and a special Sunday matinee at 2pm. The good news is that you can buy the Star's world class popcorn anytime the lights on on whether the movie appeals or not.

OK -- that's the fun special stuff this weekend. Let's move onto the moveable spa feast. The best part is that this feast is available EVERY DAY!

Generally, when you go to a spa, you go to one place. You choose from their particular menu. Not in Berkeley Springs, We are unique. We are a spa town -- the country's first as a matter of fact. First, as in 1750s; still as in today. So, what does that mean -- a spa town. Sample the moveable spa feast and you'll get it but here's an outline. You can park your car somewhere in the heart of town and trot around the streets picking and choosing your spa treats. The mountain mama of it all is Berkeley Springs State Park, a charming village green that is, in fact, the heart of town. The springs live here. The warm mineral springs that drew colonial elite including George Washington. They established a town in 1776 -- a town that was recently named a National Historic District. Today, when the atmospheric conditions are right, you can watch steam pour off the open spring pools and channel in the park. Then drop in and take a fabulous Roman Bath in a bathhouse that dates to 1815 (don't worry, the plumbing has been updated along with the tile tubs.) The Roman Baths have nine private bathing chambers, each a tiny room with a walk-in tub filled with 750 gallons of healing spring water heated to 102 degrees. For a simple massage, try the park's facilities located in temporary buildings as the main bathhouse is renovated.

Now that you've done it the way George did, slip into the 21st century. Adjacent to the park on the south the the gleaming jewel of The Country Inn's Five Senses Spa with what many claim to be the best treatment in town. Of course, all our spas say that and we agree -- they all ARE the best. You can get the works at the Inn -- massage, facials, pedicures, baths -- and waxing. And you can stay there. Dine there. Get a spa package. And enjoy their latest treat -- classic high tea, Thursday through Saturday from 3 to 5pm.

Across Fairfax St. from the park to the north is the Bath House Day Spa. They have a long menu of excellent treatments including several brands of massage including couples and hot stone and a focus on skin based work. They also have a shop attached so you can purchase the products when you fall in love with them. Upstairs is a pristine pair of suites where you can spend the night and get a spa package as part of the deal.

Another short block further north and you step into an historic building that morphs before your eyes into an Asian-style spa -- Atasia, brainchild of master massage therapist, Frankie Tan. Their menu of treatments runs from Tan's Thai massages to sacred Hawaiian Lomi Lomi (you can get it with TWO massage therapists working simultaneously if you choose) sugar scrubs, mud wraps, steams, pedicures, facials and more.

One more block takes you to the pink Victorian HQ of Awakenings Health Center, a type of co-op of practitioners boasting everything from reflexology and therapeutic foot baths to massage and a Chines physician doing acupuncture. No baths at Awakenings, just bodywork so make the Roman Baths in the park your first stop.

There are also a collection of individual practitioners, all licensed, and all excellent. Tamme Marggraf offers traditional acupuncture located in a suite facing the park. Michael Pushkin could be called a miracle worker if the FDA would allow for the magic he works with deep massage. People hobble in and walk out with a bounce in their step. The Healing Vessel does kabbalistic massage and reiki.

And then there is the ultimate pleasure -- having a massage therapist come to your lodging place because you threw out your back and cannot get up, or because you have a gaggle of girlfriends along and you ALL want a massage, or just because. Have Table Will Travel is the one to call. The therapist is also an expert in pre-natal and post-partum massage.

If you want to do your own work-out routines as part of the spa feast, head on down south of town to Rankin's for a therapeutic pool, machine room and trainers happy to work with walk-ins.

Go online and start researching the topic of credit scores, and you will quickly be overwhelmed with information and analysis. But in truth, there are only a few important concepts that you, as a first-time home buyer, should know about credit scores.

Here are five of the most important things to keep in mind when you start shopping for a mortgage loan — an even long before that.

1. Mortgage lenders will check your score.

When you apply for a home loan, you can be certain that the mortgage lender will review your credit score — among other financial factors. It’s not the only thing that will determine their decision, but it is one of the top factors of the mortgage-approval process.

If your score is low, you won’t even get your foot in the door. You will be rejected right from the start, or you’ll have a much harder time finding a willing lender. If your score is high, you will have more options and better interest rates available to you.

2. Your score partly determines the interest rate.

The interest rate is one of the components that will make up your monthly mortgage payment. Obviously, the principal amount you borrow is the largest factor that determines your monthly payment. But the interest rate plays a major role as well.

If you have a high credit score, you are more likely to get a low rate on your home loan. This in turn will reduce the amount you have to pay each month toward the mortgage. 5. There are no mysteries to improving a credit score.

Berkeley Springs is snow-free and Mother Nature's winter form -- stark and pure with clean edges and sharp line -- captures the imagination luring the stressed mind into restful contemplation. Take your stroll in the downtown Berkeley Springs State Park and if the time and atmospheric conditions are right, you'll have the perfect photo op of steam rising from the warm springs channel and pools.

There is some man-made activity among the forested ridges and valleys however that revitalized souls can join with gusto.

Splashiest and most exclusive event of the weekend is Highlawn Inn's annual Wine and Dine with the West Virginia winemaster on Saturday evening. Start at 7pm with a six-course gourmet dinner with matched Fisher Ridge wines followed by a brief program, reporting "a year in the Vineyard," by Fisher Ridge owner and winemaster, Dr. Wilson Ward. Very limited seating in Highlawn's Victorian dining room requires reservations.

Local music is another highlife treat. It begins mid-week and continues every night making its headquarters at several locations including Earth Dog Cafe and the Troubadour Lounge. Saturday is the big night for local music. Start at 8pm at the Fairfax Coffee House with the high energy blues/folk rock sound of two outstanding guitarists -- Jim and Jim. That's Salman and Fredo plus some great singing thrown in for good measure. When you are ready for dancing, head out the ridge to the Troubadour where the Flashbacks take you retro. They play until midnight.

While at the Fairfax Coffee House for the music, or anytime during the weekend when you stop by for a hot drink, check out "Cascade of Events," dramatic pastels by Dr. Dave Thomas on exhibit. This is the only art exhibit in town at the moment while the floor in the Ice House Gallery moves to completion.

The other hot nightlife activity this weekend features George Clooney at the Star Theatre. That's right, the sexiest man alive in an award-winning performance on the big screen -- Up In The Air. It's rated R and showtimes are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm. You can also stop by for the world class popcorn at the Star. The flashing lights draw the eye and illuminate the front row seats of La Luna Wine Bar across the street.

Heads-up on a couple other dining specials. Every Friday is Ladies Nite at the Country Inn's Tavern which also has a great fish and chips platter that night. The Inn also offers an elaborate Sunday brunch from 11am to 3pm. For family-style dining, head south to Cacapon State Park where Sunday through Thursday night dinner specials include order one entree get second one half price.

Another unusual outing this weekend is to visit the 4th Annual Bath-Romney Campaign Commemoration Encampment. From Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, there is a living history Civil War camp in Berkeley Springs State Park with presentations of fife and drums, and talks about history at the Country Inn adjacent to the park. For those who think musket firing is the key to any reenactment -- you're in luck. Musket firings are scheduled for 5pm on Friday; 11am and 3pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday all in the park.

Flashing lights and Hollywood returns to Berkeley Springs this weekend as the Star Theatre re-opens for the year showing Sandra Bullock in the popular "Blind Side" Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm. As much missed as the movies have been these past couple weeks has been the world class popcorn the Star offers both moviegoers and walk-ins.

For more terrific live music, come on Friday and stop by the Fairfax Coffee House at 8pm for one of the best bluesman in the region -- singer/songwriter and guitarist Billy Thompson plays blues, rock, funk and jazz with Gene Monroe.
